Morning head towards Bhalukpong (250 kms / 5 Hrs) – a small town located in the border between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. En-route we take a short tour to visit the ruins of Da Parbatia Temple – a stone carved gate dating back to 6th Century and visit the Cole Park – a small park started the Asst commissioner during the colonial period where the stones craved in different forms depicting the characters of Hindu Myths Overnight at Hotel .
After breakfast continue drive to Dirang (160 kms / 5 Hrs). Dirang is an almost picture-perfect Tibetan – Monpa stone village marred only by the main road. Above the picturesque stone houses rises a steep rocky hill topped with Old Dirangs Gompa and several walls Overnight at Hotel.
After breakfast drive to Tawang (135 Kms / 5 Hrs) en-route witness the snowcapped Sella Pass at 14000 ft and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. (Legend has it that Jaswant (Mahavir Chakra Awardee (Posthumous) of 4th Batallion Garhwal Rifles), fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place). Tawang is situated at an altitude of 3500m. The natural beauty and solitude of Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, Tawang chu River and Tawang Valley are mesmerizing. The inhabitants of the districts are all of Monpa tribes except Shyo village which is dominated by people of Tibetan Origin Overnight at Hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel and proceed for sightseeing of 400 years (17th century) old Tawang Monastery which is the second largest monastery in the world after Potala Palace in Tibet. The building is about 113 feet long and 80 feet wide and houses valuable antiquities, books and manuscripts-handwritten and printed. Later visit Tawang War Memorial, a 40 foot high multi-hued memorial, has a structure constructed in stupa design. Dedicated to the martyrs of Sino-Indo War held in 1962, this memorial is nestled among beautiful peaks, which overlooks the Tawang-Chu valley. Urgelling Monastery – birth place of 6th Dalai Lama. Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Bomdila (175 Kms / 6 Hrs). Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district located at the height of 8500 ft above the sea level. It has a lot of attractions for the tourists with its cool climate, Apple orchards, artistic people, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and Buddhist Gompas. The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is the repository of culture. Explore the town in the afternoon. Overnight at Hotel.
After breakfast drive to Tezpur (160 kms / 5 Hrs) en-route visit Bomdila Monastery also known as Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Lling monastery, built in 1965 by the twelfth incarnation of the Tsona Gontse Rinpoche.Later transfer to Tezpur – a city with Lush green tea gardens, picturesque landscapes and endless paddy fields framed by the snow-clad Himalayas. Originally, Tezpur is said to have been known as Haruppesvera, during the reign of the Mlechchha dynasty (650 - 900 AD) Overnight at Hotel.
After an early breakfast drive towards Kaziranga National Park (70 Kms / 2 Hrs) – an UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home of the world famed One Horned Rhino’s. On arrival check into hotel. Post Lunch we shall go for a Jeep Safari in Western Range of the park. Overnight at Hotel.
Early-morning we will explore the park on Elephant Back - Elephant ride is the best way to behold the vigour and charm of the enchanting wildlife of the park. Mid-morning visit Kaziranga National Orchid & Biodiversity Park – the Park boasts of having more than 500 varieties of wild orchids, 132 species of sour fruits and leafy vegetables, 46 species of bamboo, 12 species of cane and many other plants along with various species of local fishes.Afternoon we will go for a Jeep Safari in the Central range of the park. Check out with packed breakfast and head towards Nemati Ghat (120 kms / 2 ½ hrs + 01 hour by ferry) to board ferry and cross the mighty Brahmaputra River on ferry to reach Majuli assumed to be the largest River Island in world, which also stands to the cultural capital of Assam ever since 16th century.Majuli is located on the river Brahmaputra in Assam and is formed by Brahmaputra in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti joined by the river Subansiri in the north. Making you feel at peace with nature, it is home of many migratory birds. Located 1100 km away from the mouth of the Brahmaputra, Majuli had an area of 1256 sq km in 1991 but due to soil erosion, it has now reduced to 875 sq km. Majuli has been the cultural capital of the Assamese civilization since the 16th century.Explore the island by visiting the Anuati sattras (monasteries) & Uttar – Kamalabari sattras (monasteries). Interact with the monks and visit monk’s quarter. We shall also visit Mishing tribal village a major inhabitant of the island followed by a visit to pottery making village and mask making village. Post lunch, board ferry to mainland Jorhat for your night stay. Overnight at Hotel.
